Next Generation Science Standards

On September 20, 2011 Kentucky was announced as a Lead State Partner in the development of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) with Achieve, Inc. As a Lead State Partner, Kentucky educators will have a great degree of input on shaping the standards along with 25 other lead states. On this page you will find information regarding Kentucky's work with the NGSS and updates on the progress of Kentucky's science standards.

The first of two public drafts of the NGSS is currently available for review and comment at http://www.nextgenscience.org/next-generation-science-standards The public comment period for this first draft will end on June 1, 2012.

The guiding document for the NGSS is the Framework for K-12 Science Education published by the National Academies Press and available to download or read online for free. A brief outlining the Framework is also available to download.
