Based upon funding allocations awarded by the General Assembly, $20,000 grants requiring a 25% cash match are available to school districts for the purpose of employing a full time community education director.
Community Education is a powerful concept that acknowledges learning is dynamic and changing, occurs in many forms, and is a lifelong requirement for human development. It is a way of thinking about and organizing public schools for individual and community development.
Kentucky Community Education Association (KCEA)
The KCEA believes that the community education concept offers a creative approach to individual and community development. We believe effective community education programs result from close cooperation among all segments of the community and we affirm the belief that citizens have the right and obligation to be involved in the decision making processes that affect their well-being.
National Community Education Association (NCEA)
NCEA's mission is to provide leadership to those who build learning communities in response to individual and community needs. It does this by providing its members with national and regional training conferences and workshops; specialized periodicals, publications, and products; opportunities for peer support and networking; and information and referral services. In addition it acts as an advocate for community education by working with related organizations and promoting at the national, state, and local levels.
21st Century Community Learning Centers
The focus of this program, re-authorized under Title IV, Part B, of the No Child Left Behind Act, is to provide expanded academic enrichment opportunities for children attending low performing schools. Tutorial services and academic enrichment activities are designed to help students meet local and state academic standards in subjects such as reading and math. In addition 21st CCLC programs provide youth development activities, drug and violence prevention programs, technology education programs, art, music and recreation programs, counseling and character education to enhance the academic component of the program.
