Those of you who frequently use PowerPoint or other presentation software may have heard of Prezi.com. Prezi.com is an alternative to PowerPoint that allows you to create presentations, edit saved presentations, download presentations for offline use, and even collaborate on presentations with your colleagues via the Internet. Additionally, the collaboration features in Prezi allow multiple people to edit shared presentations simultaneously, in real-time. You also can upload existing PowerPoint presentations and convert them to Prezi for more unique and engaging presentations.
To create an account, provide your name, e-mail address and a password. All of the features described above are included in the public (free) account. After creating your account you’ll be free to create and collaborate.
If you’re thinking about using Prezi, be sure to keep the following caveats in mind. Presentations created with Prezi are not secure and can be accessed by anyone when created with a public account. Additionally, as the presenter, Prezi will keep you close to your PC or require you to have an assistant to advance slides because Prezi does not support slide-advancing tools like the USB wireless clicker. Lastly, Prezi is not supported by the KETS Service Desk or KDE Desktop Support, while PowerPoint is fully supported.
